2 DAYS/ 1 NIGHT

Day 1 Morning transfer from Guatemala City to the Coffee Plantation and Natural Reserve LAS NUBES ESTATE.Lunch on arrival and in the afternoon transfer on a jeep to the mountain for the observation of the Resplendent Quetzal Guatemala National Bird and stop at the Mirador for a spectacular panoramic view. Return to the Lodge for accommodations and Dinner.

Day 2 Full day at the reserve on the trails and the coffee plantation with an explanation of the coffee: 06:00am early transfer for birdwatching and around 08:00am american breakfast. 11:00am return to the main house for lunch and at 04:30pm transfer to Guatemala City. End of Services.

LAS NUBES, Coffee Farm and Nature Reserve


Finca Las Nubes has been awarded in the past with the following recognitions:

Starbucks Special Reserve 2002 – 2003. The Exceptional Cup” auction 2004. Cup of Excellence” auction 2006.Also this farm has the following certifications: Rainforest Alliance. C.A.F.E. Practices (Starbucks Cert) Las Nubes has a special interest for the well being of all individuals working in the community. For that reason, the management provides medical assistance, schooling, housing, and other important services.

The house of the farm, is a historic gem as it dates back over 150 years. Its structure restored, displayed in their different environments various antiques and photographs of that time, providing a special comfort to visitors and currently has several living rooms, three dining rooms, several bedrooms and areas to enjoy a good cup of coffee while they discussed the experiences of the day.  Everything is perfectly complemented by the beautiful views, climate and the hospitality of the people. No less interesting is the journey through the facilities of the farm, where visitors can see the processing of the coffee.

In addition to the variety of bird species that can be observed in the Natural Reserve of the Finca Las Nubes, this has two viewpoints from where it can be observed spectacular scenery and impressive volcanoes, including one in activity.  Also vast forests with sidewalks already established allowing hikes of several hours where you can observe in addition to birds, mammals such as squirrels, armadillos, deer and monkeys and lush vegetation.

Bird list includes important bird species, some of which are in serious danger of extinction and therefore can only be seen in few places and with great effort.  This is the case of Aguila Tirana, and other no less important distinguished by their beauty and color like the Emerald Tucancillo, Trogon of the Mountain and the Colibr?? or Purple Fandanguero. It also could be seen and identified 9 species of birds of prey, which is worth mentioning that this group of birds are taste of most birdwatching fans. The following list, constitutes only a fraction of all the species that inhabit in the extension of the Finca Las Nubes, a large number of bird species have to be identified and seen, including migratory species.  Among the most important species that have been reported in the reserve and were not seen during this study, are: Horned Guan (Oreaphasis derbianus), el Ornate Hawk-Eagle (Spizaetus ornatos), Palin Chachalaca (Ortalis vetula) y Barn Owl (Tyto alba), among others.

ITINERARY

Day 1
Arrive to Guatemala City transfer to your Hotel in Guatemala City or Antigua Guatemala. "Almacigo del Cafe"
 
Day 2
Early morning visit to the Museum Coffee at Azotea Lori Wunderlich
Transfer from Antigua to Finca Las Nubes where you will have the first contact with coffee plantations for the best Guatemala Coffee winners of different awards and they are certified  as Starbucks suppliers. Travel time around 3 hours.
Arrive to Finca and you will be welcome with a cup of coffee from the production grounds.
Lunch and in afternoon enjoy the tour for the almacigo where they do all kind of different blends of coffee.

Stay at Finca Filadelfia or Camino Real Antigua.

Visit Guatemala City for a cuping demonstration and a observe the activity of coffee dealers  around the world.
Return to Antigua or   Stay in Guatemala City.

FILADELFIA Coffee Plantation

Filadelfia Estate Coffee Plantation

Filadelfia Farm it is located on the edge of the city of Antigua Guatemala and produces one of the finest coffees on earth. Also is an ecological tourist destiny with tours on the coffee plantation (including a museum) and in the forest reservation at an elevation of 8000 feet above sea level. The tour it could be made by horse or jeep. Conifer-oak forest its the natural vegetation on the mountain slopes around Antigua and you can observe different species of birds. Filadelfia Farm contributes with the forest conservation and the environmental education trough its tours.

Antigua. With 553.5 acres of natural forest and cultivated lands, as a farm Finca Filadelfia also produces high-quality coffee. This destination offers specialized coffee tours and birdwatching. It is surrounded by Pine-Oak forest, which is well conserved, and it also has remnants of Cloud Forest in the elevated area of the farm, where you can observe more than a hundred bird species.

Finca Patrocinio, Natural Reserve

Private Natural Reserve & Coffee Farm El Patrocinio

Patrocinio Farm is a private reserve managed by a family company committed with the environment conservation and also is a coauthor and active promoter of the sustainable development plan of Palajunoj area, among six other farms.

Patrocinio has several sections of crops like coffee, cardamom, banana and pacayina. It also has 25 ha of native forest. Patrocinio offers the visitor spectaculars views of Santiaguito (one of the three active volcanoes in Guatemala) and Santa Mar??a Volcanoes, in addition there are many activities of entertainment such as agronomical tours (Ex. Coffee tour), camping area, hiking, nature tourism, natural river pools and bird watching photographic tour. Due to its unique combination of native forest, variety of crops and water resources, Patrocinio Farm is and ideal place for bird watching in the pacific coast.

The farm offers lodge and food service in the “patronal” house. Also has a bird list made by Claire Dallies and Jason Berry.

Los Tarrales, Natural Reserve

Natural Private Reserve Los Tarrales

Located on the southeast slope of volcano Atitl?°n and covers an area from 760 to 2500 m above sea level, that‚Äôs why it has a great variety of bird species. The main activities of the Reserve are coffee plantation, agro tourism and bird watching. Many birds‚Äô species of the region are endemic or danger like the Horned Guan (Oreophasis derbianus) and Cabanis’s Tanager (Tangara cabanisi). The reserve has trails, eco-lodge, food service and guides with specialization in agriculture and birds. Los Tarrales has four trail for birdwatching: Las Pavas, La Rinconada, Horned Guan Trail and¬† LaCumbre. Also it has observation tower, Check List and inventory from Knut Eisermann.

This reserve is self sustainable and provides income to 60 Maya Kaqchikel families, which live within the protected area. People work mainly in cultivation and processing of coffee and ornamental plants. Some work as forest rangers preventing forest fires and illegal extraction of resources. Also tourist services provide income to the local people. Los Tarrales has a private primary school in order to assure the children’s education, including environmental education. With the visit to this lovely place the tourist will support the conservation of the region.
