Iximche, Archaeological Site

Pre-Colombinan Mesoamerica Archaeological site located at the western highlands of Guatemala and was the capital of the late post classic. The architecture include two ball courts of the Maya, pyramids and temples used from 1470 until its abandonment in 1524.

Private Natural Reserve Molino Helvetia and Casa Xara

Are nestled in hills which form part of the Sierra Madre.¬† It is located 88 km/61 miles from Guatemala City, 5 km from Tecp?°n, Chimaltenango and 8 km from the archaeological site of Iximch?©.

The Reserve offers several services and activities like: jog or bike (mountain bicycles are available for rental) throughout the designated trails surrounding forests and mountains, chapel (built at the end of the XIX century), wheat mill (built at the end of the XIX century), bird watching (Casa Xara, within Molino Helvetia Private Natural Reserve, is perhaps the largest bird habitat left in the region) and lodge.

Molino Helvetia has been owned by a family company since 1924. It was purchased as a wheat mill and operated as such until 2005, when flour production was transferred to Guatemala City.

“Xara “means jay in kaqchikel, the area’s Mayan language.¬† The abundance of this species in its forests inspired the logo for its flour bags and Casa Xara.

In the 2002, the company obtained the Agriculture Ministry and the National Forest Institute support, for the development of a sustainable forest project. The forests of the farm were certified as conservation area. In the 2004, Molino Helvetia obtained the Natural Private Reserve certification.
