Location
Guatemala, about the size of Tennessee, one state in the United States is the northernmost Central American country. Neighboring to the west are Belize and Honduras, north is Mexico and east with El Salvador. It covers an extension of almost 100,000 square miles of diverse topography from high mountain peaks to tropical rain forests, beaches, rivers and lakes.
Climate
Guatemala principal regions are; moderate to cool highlands, where most people live, tropical coastal areas on the Pacific and Caribbean, and Peten's jungle -in the northern lowlands.The Maya Highlands of Guatemala is called "The Land of Eternal Spring" because of its average of 70° F temperature all year around. The lowlands in the Caribbean and Pacific Coastlines are tropical, with high humidity and temperatures in the 90°s. The nicest time of year to check out Guatemala is November to April the dry season.From May to October and, in some areas up until December, is wet season.
High season for foreign tourism is Christmas to Easter, with peak times at Christmas, New Years and Easter.
Language
The official language is Spanish, although English is generally spoken in hotels, restaurants, markets and stores. There are a total of 23 distinct indigenous Maya languages spoken in the region.
